Wathba Reserve
In Abu Dhabi, don't miss the Wetland Reserve, which was created in 2013 and designated as a fully protected site.
From autumn to spring, the reserve is home to more than 4,000 pink flamingos and over 250 species of birds, as well as 37 protected terrestrial and aquatic plants.
It's also a haven for wild animals, including Arabian lizards that can measure up to 50cm in length.
The 3km-long nature trail is ideal for birdwatching and nature observation. It winds through the park, passing through forests of reeds over 2m high.
It's a really pleasant walk. The colonies of pink flamingos are fascinating to watch, and their numbers are truly impressive. Nowhere else in the Arabian Peninsula can you see so many birds.
