Jebel Akhdar crossing

One of the Sultanate of Oman's top tourist destinations is Jebel Akdhar (which means Green Mountain).

This huge mountain range rises to about 3'000m, crossing the north of the country and forming an almost impassable barrier.

Countless wadis exist on both the east and west sides, but only a few allow you to cross the mountains.

One of the best known is the Wadi Bani Awf, which leads to Al Hamra and Rustaq via a challenging trail through the Snake Canyon.

This route passes through several villages and the scenery is breathtaking.

The trail is not very busy and some sections are on cliffs, which can be quite frightening.

It takes a good 4 hours to cross the massif (4x4 or SUV).

Some sections may be flooded, so make sure you get the right information before setting off into the wadis.

You'll have fairly good GSM coverage, but some places have none at all.

So make sure you download your google map before you go.

1/5 Easy drive also possible with SUV
Attention you will not find any petrol station on the way, make sure you have make enough fuel
