Nefta -> Tembaine

After crossing the magnificent Nefta palm grove, you'll carefully cross the Chott el Jerid. Before embarking on this journey, make sure that conditions allow for safe passage. If it has rained, chances are you won't be able to cross the Chott. Alternatively, follow the road around the lake to reach El Faouar.

This route requires a well-prepared vehicle and experience of driving in sand, as you'll have to cross some fairly high dunes and the tracks are difficult. You'll also need to bring sufficient supplies of fuel, water and food if you plan to camp and spend a few days in this superb desert close to the Algerian border.

Time required: approx. 6 hours from El Faouar to Tembaine (100km on and off-road)
