Al Wadi Desert

Al Wadi desert is one of the largest desert areas in RAK, stretching from the south of the Emirate to the airport road (Al Shuhadah Road).

The Al Wadi Desert is bordered by the E311 to the west and the E611 to the east.

It is possible to travel from the village of Al Saadi to Falaj al Mualla and Al Dhait by crossing the Al Wadi Desert from north to south.

In the north-east zone, you'll find the biggest dunes and therefore the most difficult areas to access, requiring a good command of your 4x4.

The landscapes are very varied, alternating between arid zones, large dunes and areas with vegetation and camel farms.

Allow plenty of time to visit it, whether from north to south or east to west, I recommend a minimum of 3 hours to enjoy the splendours of Al Wadi Desert.

Don't miss the magnificent Al Wadi Ritz Carlton Resort, which has a superb SPA and is well worth the diversions (booking is required).

The easiest way to reach the Al Wadi is either from the north (GPS3) or the south (GPS2). For thrill-seekers, there's a other access via the E311 (GPS3), but this is fairly technical and will take you up one of the highest dunes in the region, followed by a vertiginous descent.  Last but not least, there is also an easy entrance at Al Saadi village (GPS4).

Difficulty :
3/5 its better to go with a minimum of 2 cars and to be well equiped for 4x4, some spots in direction of Wadi Shawka (south-east) are very difficult (5/5) due to soft sand dunes.

Refer to Maps and GPS routes page for details.
Deflate your tyres before entering the desert.
