Sand Recovery
Sand board and shovels are indispensable accessories for off-road excursions.
Preferably use recognized brands (ARB, Maxtrax, for example), because although they are more expensive, the quality is far superior and you'll be able to use them for longer.
A few simple rules of efficiency
1. Don't wait until you're fully seated on the chassis to put your plates on.
Don't accelerate at the first sign of slippage, as this will only make things worse.
2. Level off in front of the wheels (front or rear, depending on the situation) so that you can lay the plates flat on the sand.
3. Move forward (or backward) gently over the plates, accelerating only when the wheel is firmly in place.
4. Moderate acceleration should be enough to get out of the sand.
5. If you have two sets of plates, release all four wheels as described in step 2.
6. Sometimes, a little back and forth will get you out of a tight spot.
7. Make sure your front wheels are straight in the direction of travel.
Deflating your tires can also improve grip on sandy patches, so don't hesitate to do so (but always stay above 0.5bar-10psi).
